Sleep Study Process

We would like to thank you for choosing the FLORIDA SLEEP DISORDER CENTER and for allowing us to treat you for Obstructive Sleep Apnea. We are one of the few Sleep Centers in the country with designated CPAP/BiPAP clinics.

We will set up a series of appointments. As you proceed through the treatment protocols, any appointment that is not required will be cancelled.

Your initial sleep study is a diagnostic sleep study. Various leads will be connected to your body to monitor brain, heart, lung, and muscle functions.

Your physician will review the results of your first night study. If he diagnoses a sleep disorder such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea, he will want you to meet with the ARNP. The ARNP will go over your sleep study results, in detail, and answer any questions you have about sleep apnea or other sleep disorders.

You will then have a second night sleep study, which is a treatment sleep study. This study is similar to the first one, with one important difference. We will start you on CPAP therapy. CPAP therapy is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure therapy. This time, while you are asleep, the technician will gently adjust the level of air pressure you are receiving. The technician adjusts the pressure upward until a level is reached to significantly reduce or eliminate your sleep interruption. Once we know your “optimal” pressure, your doctor may order the equipment and establish the optimal pressure setting for you to use at home.

You will then come in to see the ARNP. The ARNP will go over your second sleep study, explain the CPAP machine to you and answer any questions you may have.
